SOMM, a documentary by Jason Wise, takes the viewer on a humorous and illuminating journey into a world that is shrouded
in mystery, the Court of Master Sommeliers and its prestigious and intimidating Master Sommelier Exam. In his film, Jason follows four young wine professionals who have put their lives on hold as they prepare to take the Master Sommelier Exam. To pass this test, which began 40 years ago with less than 200 Master titles to date, one has to have extensive knowledge of literally every nuance in
the world of wine, spirits and cigars. Through a process of practical tasting regimens and intense study, often at the risk of their personal relationships and sanity, the film extracts the dedication and frustration that these young men put in to achieve their goal of becoming Master Sommeliers.

Eleanor Squillari went to work every day believing she was working for a great company, a great man. For twenty-five years she sat 15 feet from Bernard L. Madoff as his personal secretary. She never imagined that he was perpetrating the largest financial crime in history. On December 11th, 2008, her life as she knew it was destroyed…until she decided to do something about it.
She became obsessed with unearthing the truth. Through this film we experience this journey with Eleanor, as she examines how she unwittingly participated in the massive Ponzi scheme, which operated right under her nose. Years of Eleanor’s files and personal memories begin to unwind the crimes as she aids the FBI investigation, and struggles to determine which of her formerly trusted co-workers were involved. As she probes deeper into the deceit, Eleanor finds that Bernie’s Ponzi scheme was only the beginning, a small fraction of the criminal activity that took place everyday for decades, right under her nose.

THE KILL TEAM, a story about a young soldier in Afghanistan who attempted to alert the military to horrific atrocities being committed by U.S. soldiers, and who then himself became a target of one of the largest war crimes investigations in U.S. history.
In 2010, a group of U.S. soldiers in southern Afghanistan – bored, frightened, and angry intentionally killed civilians, planting weapons on their victims to stage the incidents as “good shoots.” They called themselves, “The Kill Team.” Specialist Adam Winfield alerted the military to the killings through his father, but his warnings went unheeded. Adam’s fellow soldiers, sensing that he was going to talk, threatened to silence him – permanently.
On May 2, 2010, the Kill Team decided to carry out another murder, this time in Adam’s presence. Weeks later, Adam was flown back to Fort Lewis in Washington State and charged with premeditated murder. United States v. Winfield, draws attention to a difficult truth: in war, the freedom to follow one’s conscience is sometimes a luxury.

Former Mayor Koch is the quintessential New Yorker. Filmed shortly before his death, he is ferocious, charismatic, and hilariously blunt. A riveting portrait of a towering and polarizing man, he ruled New York from 1978 to 1989. It was a decade of graffiti, near-bankruptcy,and rampant crime. Neil Barsky has crafted an intimate and revealing portrait of this intensely private man, his legacy as a political titan and the town he helped transform. Through candid interviews and rare archival footage, KOCH chronicles the personal and political toll of running one of the world’s most amazing cities.

I Learn America, is a film that follows one year in the lives of five young and vibrant immigrant teenagers, that come together at the International High School at Layfayette, a New York City public school, dedicated to serving newly arrived immigrant teenagers.
With a student population of more than 300, using two-dozen languages, the students strive to master English, confront the universal trials of adolescence, and search for a future they can claim as their own. Through their personal stories we learn that some have come to live with their parents for the first time in years, some have left their families behind, others have escaped civil war and poverty. While this unique high school offers its students the opportunity to get a good education, they are also confronted with the all-too-real possibility that they may never live the American dream.
The children of immigration, here to stay, are the new Americans. How we fare in welcoming them will determine the nature of this country in the 21st century and beyond.
